8coupons acquires Android app Clipless

8coupons-med8coupons, a hub and B2B platform for local deals, has acquired the Android app, Clipless, which seeks out and alerts shoppers when they are in close proximity of deals.

Founder and developer of Clipless, Michael Barnathan, has joined 8coupons full-time as Head of Mobile, leading development and strategy. In this role, Michael will oversee the rebrand of the Clipless Android app and relaunch of 8coupons’ iOS app with a new user interface, updated functionality, intelligence and content.

“Clipless is a perfect fit with 8coupons’ mission and has accelerated our mobile technology pipeline,” said 8coupons co-founder and CEO, Landy Ung. “We’re always looking to give customers a better experience and bring 8coupons closer to becoming their personal concierge for daily life.“

Gamevil acquires Com2uS

gamevil_logoKorean mobile video games publisher Gamevil has acquired the shares and control from the majority shareholders of Com2uS. It is being reported that Gamevil paid around KRW 70 billion ($65 million).

com2usBoth companies are amongst the earliest gaming companies in the world. Com2uS is the older of the two, being founded in 1998. Gamevil was founded in 2000. Last year Gamevil reported full-year revenues of KRW 70.2 billion ($65.5 million). Com2uS reported KRW 76.9 billion ($71.8 million). Both companies operate out of South Korea.

DG MediaMind acquires Republic Project

dglogoDigital Generation, Inc., a multi-screen advertising company, is to acquire Republic Project, a cloud-based ad platform that enables agencies and brands to create, deliver and measure social and mobile rich media campaigns. DG will acquire substantially all of the assets of Republic Project for $1.4 million in cash and an additional earn out tied to revenue and EBITDA performance targets in 2014 and 2015. Republic Project’s 11 employees, including CEO AJ Vernet, will join DG’s Los Angeles office.

GMG rejects improved Apax offer

tradermediagroupThe FT is reporting that Guardian Media Group has rejected an improved offer by Apax to purchase GMG’s 50.1% stake in Trader Media. The new offer valued Trader Media at about £1.5bn, including net debt of about £560m. Apax’s previous offer valued the business at £1.2 billion. An IPO now seems the most likely outcome.

Groupon acquires SideTour

grouponGroupon has acquired SideTour, a marketplace that helps people discover, book and host  local activities. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

SideTour events are intimate gatherings, averaging 12 attendees, and span food, drink, architecture, history, art and much more. SideTour currently offers more than 500 public and private events with more than 400 hosts using the platform. Hosts include chefs, artists, Olympic medalists, casting directors and sommeliers.

matomy1Global performance marketing company Matomy Media Group has acquired Florida based mobile affiliate network MobAff. Founded in 2011, MobAff works with advertisers and affiliate networks to help them generate and deliver leads and acquire customers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

MobAff will be integrated within MediaWhiz, a North American performance marketing agency acquired bymobaf MATOMY earlier this year. MobAff founder Alexander Tsatkin, along with other members of the company, will relocate to MediaWhiz’s New York City headquarters. MobAff’s proprietary mobile marketing technology will be integrated into MediaWhiz’s affiliate network.

Hasbro acquires a majority interest in mobile games company Backflip Studios

hasbroToy maker Hasbro has acquired a majority stake in Backflip Studios. The Boulder, Colorado based company develops some of the mobile industry’s most popular games including DragonValeNinJump and Paper Toss. Hasbro paid $112 million in an all cash transaction for 70% of the company.

Founded in 2009 by Julian Farrior, Dale Thoms and Tom Blind, Backflip Studios has had more than 300 million downloads of its games. Other titles in their portfolio include, Ragdoll BlasterArmy of Darkness Defense andOutWordedBackflip will continue to develop its own IP, as well as create mobile games featuring many of Hasbro’s best known brands. As part of the transaction, Backflip’s management team will continue to run the company, which will remain in Boulder. Hasbro anticipates the transaction to be neutral to slightly accretive to its 2013 financial results.backflip-logo

Twitter acquires Spindle

twitter3Twitter has acquired Boston-based app maker Spindle Labs. Spindle was founded by Pat Kinsel and Alex lambert. Spindle helps you discover the best social updates from nearby shops, restaurants, bars, event venues, parks, museums and galleries, community organisations, and other attractions. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Spindle app has been removed from the App Store.
